For the history of the 1990s in Russia, Gorbachev and Yeltsin became the era of Gorbachev, who, despite their lifetime antagonism, will remain in it by the twin brothers who crushed Soviet power. But for so many people of that generation, the symbol of the 90s was the figure of Boris Abramovich Berezovsky. Why did he embody important features of his time - the time of the formation of the second Russian capitalism? The author of the book, Peter Aven, discusses this issue with two dozen people who knew Berezovsky well at different periods of his life. Among the author’s interlocutors are Valentin Yumashev and Alexander Voloshin, Mikhail Fridman and Anatoly Chubais, Sergey Dorenko and Vladimir Pozner. Each of them has its own version of the answer to the question why the low energetic doctor of sciences from the academic institute suddenly took off to the status of the symbol of the era, embodying her bold daring and unsightly falls. Berezovsky’s life ended in a tragedy, but the history of the country continues.
