Hezer Makadem - a writer and journalist whose books about the history of the Holocaust were recognized by the memorial complex of the Holocaust history of the orewall, the Auschwitz memorial museum in Auschwitz and other centers of memory of the Holocaust victims.
The book “There were 999. In the first train to Aushwitz” - an international bestseller, translated into 16 languages. Makadem tells of anything that were not suspected at the beginning, who got into the “death camp” of one of the first. The girls thought that they were going to work in Poland occupied by the Germans and that their absence would last no longer than several months.
So the first wave of deportation of Slovak Jews in concentration camps began. For each Slovaki government, the Slovakia was obliged to transfer to Germany to 500 Reichsmarks, supposedly in the form of reimbursing the costs of professional training and their structure in a new place. In fact, this money was a guarantee that no one would return home. In 1942, 57,628 Jews were deported from Slovakia, of which, according to available data, no more than 800 people survived. The author managed to recreate the stories of women from the first train to Aushwitz and their daily life - and death - in a “effective” death factory. This book is a certificate of how to remain a person in inhuman circumstances.
In the book, the reader will find postcards and photos from private family collections, and the average format will allow it to take it on the road
