The second edition of the monograph by F. A. Gushchina is a collective portrait of 98 military leaders of the Russian Imperial Army, who died and were captured during the First World War of 1914–1918, which the famous German philosopher Ernst Junger called the “steel thunderstorms”. Compared to the first publication, more significant attention was paid to captivity, the fate of the generals who returned from captivity, as well as their choice during the Civil War of 1918–1921. The book is equipped with a large number of photographs, mostly not previously published
