The story of the Pugachevsky rebellion

In early 1830, Pushkin became interested in the history of the peasant war of 1773-1775, led by Emelyan Pugachev and carefully studied archival materials and documents. In 1833, he went on a trip to the places of the uprising, where he asked the old-fashioned old people, gathered legends about Pugachev. The result of these studies was the scientific work of Pugachev"s History. The censor of this historical book was the All -Russian Emperor Nicholas I himself, who demanded to rename work into the "History of the Pugachevsky rebellion". First published in 1834.
The image of Emelyan Pugachev did not cease to worry the thought and creative imagination of the great Russian poet until the last months of his life
