The author of the book Last Petersburg. Memories of the chamberlain ”in the pre -revolutionary years took a direct part in the implementation of the reform policy of S. Yu. Witte, and then P. A. Stolypin. Ivan Thorzhevsky accompanied Stolypin on his trip to Siberia. After the revolution, he was forced to emigrate. For many years he was published in Russian newspapers of Paris as a publicist and as a poet-translator.
The memoirs of Ivan Thorzhevsky remained incomplete. They are first collected in a separate book. They feel a burning interest in resolving the most pressing Russian problems.
The application is given, in particular, the selected translations of the quatrains of Omar Khayyam, for the first time with the corrections made by Ivan Thorzhevsky to the printed text of the Parisian publication of the quatrains of the book.
