Karl Alexandrovich Gayking, Henry -Carl von Gayking (1751 - 1809) - statesman of the Russian Empire. Senator, president of the Justice College of Livonia, Estland and Finland affairs, a real secret adviser. The book first appeared in Leipzig in 1886 without mentioning the name of the author. The events set forth in it cover the entire short period of the reign of Emperor Paul, who was killed as a result of a conspiracy in 1801 by a close acquaintance with the court of Paul I, a living manner of presentation, an abundance of small interesting details, sometimes giving the events of the reign of Pavel a completely new lighting, the book attracted attention many historians. But the publication contained a story about the last hours of Emperor Paul and was prohibited in Russia. Only in 1906 it became possible to translate it. The name of the author of the book was also open - Karl Henry Gayking, a Courland nobleman by origin. He was brought up in Warsaw, entered the service there as an officer of the Polish army. In 1777, Geiking transferred to the Russian army, and soon transferred to the civil service. His mother -in -law was the head of the St. Petersburg Smolny Institute. The author was very aware of what was happening at the court of Paul, witnessing the origin and development of many events. Very often he had to personally communicate with the emperor. In his memoirs, he talks about the changes that occurred when Paul’s throne, about new appointments and intrigues, the analysis of some trials, about the delivery of Pavel of the Maltese Cross, about the emperor’s reaction to the French revolution, etc. The text is reproduced in modern spelling on the publication SPb. 1907 The circulation of 30 copies.
