Mikhail Pavlovich Golenishchev-Kutuzov-Tolstoy-a direct descendant of the great commander M.I. Kutuzova (along the line of the eldest daughter), the last representative of the Golenishchev-Kutuzovaya-Tolely clan, presented in his youth to the emperors Nicholas II and Wilhelm II. In his memoirs, there was a place for the departed brilliant era of the beginning of the 20th century, dangers during the 1917 revolution, emigrant stories, the events of the Second World War. Of particular interest are the chapters about events in Budapest, when the memoirist was engaged in the salvation of Hungarian Jews and the help of Soviet prisoners of war. In 1951, sent together with his wife from communist Hungary, he found a refuge in distant Ireland. The memoirs are supplemented by the preface of his devoted German student M. Hugemister, a biographical essay A.S. Bykova, after the afterword M.G. Talalai and generated painting of the genus. Published earlier in English and German in translation into Russian memoirs are published for the first time
