Alexander Fomich Petrushevsky (1826–1904), Russian military historian, author of the fundamental biography of A.V. Suvorova, a popularizer of historical knowledge. His stories about Peter I withstood several publications under various names since 1877. The 11th edition of 1910 was based on almost all aspects of the private life of Peter I, his state and foreign policy activities. The author discusses the prerequisites of the Peter"s reforms, notes the sequence of Peter"s performance of the plan: Peter the Great was right now. He calls the reign of the emperor a “coup”, explaining this by the actions of enemies, mainly internal. At the same time, he notes that, with all the contradiction of the “old life with the new”, the tsar was “not to smooth out and smooth” this path of Russia to the new, but “make it impossible to turn back”.
