The book is a comprehensive study of events related to the whole Italy in 73-71. BC. e. uprising under the leadership of Spartak. Based on a wide range of sources, the author analyzes in detail the available data of the literary tradition about the uprising from the point of view of the military-political situation of that time. The issues related to the organizational structure, weapons, strategy and tactics of the Spartak army, the improvements that he introduced into the Roman military art assigned to him are considered. In some cases, a possible reconstruction of the battles and a critical assessment of the forces of the warring parties is given
