In the new book from the series “New sources on the history of Russia. Rossica Inedita publishes the “Siberian notes” of Hippolytus Canar, which are written in the genre of literary composition of sentimentalism, the author’s memories of his service in the Irkutsk province in 1811–1813. Memories contain both valuable features of bureaucratic life and description of an ethnographic nature. In them, real events in the biography of the author - an average hand official close to Masonic circles - are adjacent to fictional, which gives the “Siberian notes” the nature of literary hoax.
