The book presents memories, interviews and public speeches of an outstanding scientist and public figure of academician J.I. Alfierov. The book opens with a section on the award and presentation to the author of the Nobel Prize of 2000 in physics. In addition to the official and illustrated materials, the author is also included in this section. A significant part of the book is occupied by autobiographical notes ending with the completion of study and enrolling the author to the Leningrad Physics and Technical Institute. The whole scientific biography of J. I. Alferov is associated with this institute, here he went from a young specialist to the director and scientific director. The third section of the book tells about meetings with outstanding physicists of our time. Academician Alfierov, vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences and deputy of the State Duma of several convocations, is actively fighting for the preservation of domestic science and education system. This area of his activity was reflected in a number of interviews and performances presented in the final sections.
