Nikolai Vasilievich Sklifosovsky was born on the quarantine farm. Already at the age of 24, a young graduate of the medical faculty was forced to replace as a head doctor in a small regional hospital.
In the 1860s, the great Russian surgeon realized that most of all his knowledge would be useful to wounded soldiers. Working as a military-field surgeon, the scientist took part in three military companies and received invaluable experience in conducting urgent operations. It was in conditions of hostilities that the scientist developed an innovative teaching about microbes and proposed to use antiseptics during operations. In the war, the methods of conducting complex operations were also developed for their time.
The book proposed is a collection of selected works of a military field surgeon, which describe the most interesting and complex cases
