One of the most tragic pages of Russian history is the relationship between Empress Catherine II and her only son Paul, who, contrary to the desire of the mother, came to power after her death. But he did not have to reign for long (1796-1801), and his state reforms caused anger and indignation of the ruling elite. Paul some called the Russian Hamlet, others were the first and only Anti -Divary king, and others - a crazy maniac. On the tragic fate of this outstanding personality, historians in Russia were silent for more than a hundred years after regicide. But even later, in the 20th century, the activities of Emperor Paul I spoke extremely one -sidedly, more relying on legends than historical facts.
