The focus of the monograph is the problem of the evolution of the rural family in extreme conditions of socio-economic transformations of the time of “perestroika” and the transition period of the 1990s. The consequences of radical market transformations for its demographic development, living standards and material security, including for individual groups of families, have been traced. An important feature of the study is the approach to the study of a rural family, not only as a cell of the population reproduction, but also a special production structure. The state of the personal subsidiary farm, which played a crucial role not only in its physical survival in these years, but also the development of the entire agrarian sector of Russia, has been investigated in detail. The work was performed on the basis of a variety of archival and published documents, with the involvement of a significant circle of scientific literature.
