These words are relevant today, especially if you add to them: ... and the present. For we live in a state, the foundations of which were laid down by the first Russian emperor. We are the heirs of culture, the impulse to the development of which he gave. He made Russia a first -class military power, set the country to the country corresponding to the scale of his personality, and we carry this glory and this is a giant burden.
However, in the Petrine era, the roots of the vices that we are faced with today, first of all, the selfish bureaucracy and corruption are also leaving.
The purpose and meaning of the publication proposed to the reader is to give an objective picture of the activities of the great emperor against the background of his era, to present the personality of the converter in all its diversity, to demonstrate the integrity of the historical process, the connection of times.
The book, continuing the series “Supporters of Russia through the eyes of contemporaries”, includes memories, diaries, letters of both Russian contemporaries of Peter and foreigners who visited Russia in different years of his reign.
