The monograph is devoted to the history of the creation and functioning in the 1920s of the mass illustrated socio-political and literary and artistic weekly “light”, one of the most popular periodicals in the country. Based on various sources, the author recreates the history of the magazine in the first post -revolutionary decade, since 1923, the journal was revived by the famous Soviet journalist M.E. Koltsov (Friedland), who managed to turn it into the largest typified publishing house of the mass periodicals (1926) in a short time, before renaming the Joint-Stock Society Ogonyok in the journal and gas edition (Zhurgaz) in 1931. The book is intended for specialists in the history of the USSR, the history of Russian journalism, the history of censorship, as well as all those interested in Soviet history and culture
