The chronicler Nestor is one of the heroes of our initial history. Probably everyone heard his name, but so little is known about his real biography that for the majority he has long turned into a semi -mythical figure. Meanwhile, Nestor is an outstanding writer of Ancient Rus". He is the author of the first Russian lives that have reached us - “Readings of Life and Riding” by the first Russian saints, the princes of Boris and Gleb, and the life of St. Theodosius, the hegumen of the Pechersky. And the author of the annals? Yes, undoubtedly. But what is the annals? On this issue, textologists, historians and philologists have been fighting for more than one century.
