The monograph presents the results of studying the development of the environment by the Russian peasant in the Middle Ages and the early New Time. The main sources of the study are the first Russian land cadasters: Novgorod pussy and seasonings of the XVI century. and materials of the general land surveying of the late XVIII century. The study conducts a comparative analysis of information characterizing the natural environment in which the peasant farm of Novgorod land has been functioning for centuries. The natural-liquid space of the peasant farm and its production potential, the land support of peasants are studied, the quality of the Earth and the changing parameters of its fertility, the species composition of trees and shrubs, the most common species of animals, birds and fish, are evaluated by the peasant budget and the welfare of peasant farms, are studied. The compensation mechanisms of the survival of the peasant farm in difficult natural conditions are revealed
