The book "Napoleon. Life and fate "were created based on the exhibition dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Napoleon Bonaparte. It took place in Moscow and was organized on the basis of a private collection of professor at Moscow State University Alexander Vikhrov, who is the owner of the most significant collection in Russia, reflecting Napoleon’s personality, moments of his life and accomplishment, victory and defeat, real events and myths.
This publication includes a full catalog of the exhibition, which presents 280 works of painting, graphics, sculptures, products of decorative art, as well as memorial things, weapons, orders and commemorative medals. A significant number of rarities of the beginning of the 19th century are published for the first time.
The book of Alexander Vikhrov is especially interesting in that it contains stories, one way or another related to the unique objects of the collection, denoting the path of "small corporal" to the imperial crown. These are peculiar, with the personal attitude of an essay, the content of which is far beyond the framework of traditional catalog descriptions. Bonaparte appears here both a man in the flesh, a native of the people, and the romantic hero of the universal scope, because in world history there is no other example that someone rose from the bottom to such heights.
A important place in the book occupies the vicissitudes of the relationship between Napoleon I and the Russian Tsar Alexander I, the events that reflected on the fate of many European countries. The theme of the Tilsite world, the Military-Political Union of France and Russia, crowning the meeting of two emperors, is voluminous. The story, as they say, does not know the subjunctive mood. But, according to the author of the new book, in more than two hundred years, one can ask the question of what could be a picture of the world order if the idea of strengthening the alliance of two countries kinship was then embodied, because Napoleon wake up alternately to the two sisters of Alexander I.
Refusal The Romanov families meant one thing for the rejected groom: a frontal clash with Russia is inevitable. Ahead was a war, the price of which is known - a million human lives. Of course, these events of going to Moscow and its completion found a relief reflection in the book, because it was Russia who became the arena of the most important, tragic events of the era and the beginning of the collapse of the great empire of Napoleon.
The emotional notes of the collector who devoted almost half a century to the study of the Napoleonic era, the direct speech of the emperor of the French and his contemporaries, the assessment of historians, the little -known facts and documentary evidence, coupled with works of art, things associated with everyday life or with the embodiment of folk legend, do A more voluminous panorama of the reflection of the myth of Napoleon, whose life is now presented as the greatest adventure
