The book "Napoleon. Life and fate "were created based on the exhibition dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the birth of Napoleon Bonaparte. It took place in Moscow and was organized on the basis of a private collection of professor at Moscow State University Alexander Vikhrov, who is the owner of the most significant collection in Russia, reflecting Napoleon’s personality, moments of his life and accomplishment, victory and defeat, real events and myths.
This publication includes a full catalog of the exhibition, which presents 280 works of painting, graphics, sculptures, products of decorative art, as well as memorial things, weapons, orders and commemorative medals. A significant number of rarities of the beginning of the 19th century are published for the first time.
The book of Alexander Vikhrov is especially interesting in that it contains stories, one way or another related to the unique objects of the collection, denoting the path of "small corporal" to the imperial crown. These are peculiar, with the personal attitude of an essay, the content of which is far beyond the framework of traditional catalog descriptions. Bonaparte appears here both a man in the flesh, a native of the people, and the romantic hero of the universal scope, because in world history there is no other example that someone rose from the bottom to such heights.
A important place in the book occupies the vicissitudes of the relationship between Napoleon I and the Russian Tsar Alexander I, the events that reflected on the fate of many European countries.
