Frederick Masson (Louis Claude Frederic Masson, 1847 - 1923) - French historian, specialist in the era of Napoleon I. A native of a family of large officials, Frederick Masson married Margarita Kotten, daughter of a member of the State Council under the Second Empire. This marriage allowed the masses to get acquainted with the members of the imperial family, including Prince Napoleon Joseph, whose secretary and friend he later became. Since 1894, Frederick Masson devoted himself mainly to research on Napoleonic themes. Masson became one of the leading experts in this field, having a large staff of secretaries and archives. Masson was elected a member of the French Academy and became the secretary of the Academy in 1919
