George Buchenen (1854-1924) held the post of British Ambassador in Russia from 1910 to 1918 (before that he was an ambassador to Bulgaria and the Netherlands, later in Italy) On the eve of the First World War, he sought to keep Russia in the fidelity of the Anglo-Franco-Russian Union (Entente), directed against Germany, which he succeeded: the allies stored together almost the entire war until the Brest world. However, Buchenin, being a convinced supporter of liberal values, maintained close ties with representatives of the highest Russian aristocracy and members of the State Duma, sharing his beliefs, which subsequently gave the reason to many historians to interfere with the internal affairs of the Russian Empire and the direct indulgence of the February Revolution. Subsequently, he was one of the active supporters of military intervention in Soviet Russia and the support of the white movement
