The memoirs of Mikhail Dmitrievich Bakhrushin -a two -nephew Alexei Alexandrovich Bakhrushin.

After the revolution, only Bakhrushins remained in the new Russia, as, for example, Alexei Alexandrovich himself. Other Bakhrushins were forced to leave their homeland and scattered around the countries and continents, as happened with Mikhail Dmitrievich. In the First World War, he was drafted into the army, and after the revolution he retreated with the volunteer army of Wrangel and on a steamer leaving with refugees in Constantinople, I accidentally met with his brother Gleb. From Turkey, the brothers moved to France, later Mikhail left for London, and Gleb to New York. Two other relatives remained in their homeland. The exiles that began for the brothers in 1920 - 100 years ago - Mikhail kept diaries, wrote memories and did not interrupt relations with relatives in Russia: he corresponded with his second cousin - the son of the founder of the museum Yuri Alekseevich Bakhrushin - Theater critic, ballet historian, teacher, and sisters Barbara and Olga. He compiled a typewritten book with photographs, collages, postcards and, being childless, at the end of his life handed it to Gleb Dmitrievich, and his son Dmitry Glebovich was already in the Nikulin family , descendants of the Bakhrushins living in Paris. In 2016, Alexei and Natalya Nikulina presented the document to the Bakhrushinsky museum and the painstaking work of museum employees to prepare the manuscript for the publication began. The book is that it allows you to restore the history of the family of the founder of the museum and also gives a vivid idea of the beginning of the great Russian scattering " - The life of the Russian intelligentsia in exile. With all the difficulties and tragedy of circumstances experienced by the author, he never lost the vigor of the spirit: "I sincerely believe that only optimists are lucky. And the entrepreneurship, characteristic of the Bakhrushin family, who was knocked out of the serfs of Zaraysky district in merchants, who became millionaires and famous philanthropists, helped him to act and look for happiness on the coolest turns of fate
