Georgy Dionisovich Kostakis a world -famous collector, who in Russia can safely put on a par with such outstanding collectors as Pavel Tretyakov or Sergey Schukin, collected the largest collection of paintings in the world
Russian avant -garde. Kostakis was born in Moscow in the Greek Tobacian merchant, which after the revolution lost everything. Young George could not get education. He first began working as a driver, and then an administrator at the Canadian embassy. Miraculously, a passion for art suddenly broke out in him, he understood the world significance of the paintings of the Russian avant -garde - the paintings of Kandinsky, Malevich, Shagal, Filonov and other masters, when no one in the world had yet valued them, and the creators of masterpieces were in poverty and died of hunger.
