The memoirs of Pavel Petrovich Skoropadsky (1873-1945), Lieutenant General of the Russian Army, the hero of the Russian-Japanese and First World War, cover a very small period of time. But in these months, so many events occurred that they would have more than enough for several decades: the proclamation of an independent Ukrainian power with a hetman at the head (which became Skoropad), the actual occupation of Ukraine by German troops, attempts to carry out reforms, a continuous struggle for power in an incredible state And the flight of the hetman from Kyiv to Germany.
Most readers Skoropadsky are known only as a character in the works of M.A. Bulgakov - plays "Days of Turbine" and Roman "White Guard", in which he is bred as a semi -faidal figure. Meanwhile, the fate of the hetman was rather a dramatic: a convinced monarchist and defender of the empire, he accepted the authorities in one of its fragments, a fighting officer who bravely fought with the Germans, he was forced to accept their protectorate and spent more than a quarter of a century in emigration in Germany ...
