The memoirs of Colonel M. M. Certic cover the first three decades of the twentieth century: service in the cavalry, a separate corps of gendarmes, participation in the civil war in Siberia and in the Far East. He later ended up in China, where he was forced to serve with various Chinese militarists who actively formed Russian detachments in those years.
