The next book of the series included the memoirs of Colonel E.G. von Valya (1878-1949) on the service in the General Staff and his selected articles about the First World War and the civilian. Memories draw the everyday life of an officer of the General Staff, perfectly showing his classes, participation in reconnaissance. Von Val critically observes many problems that were in the Russian army on the eve of the Great War, and gives characteristics to many generals.
Selected articles (1933-1938) are of great interest to historians. In them, the author gives an assessment of the combat operations of the 12th cavalry division, the activities of his former father-in-law D.G. Shcherbachev, as well as the influence of independent Finland and Poland on the course of the Civil War in Russia
