Boris Lvovich Gershun (1870–1954) was one of the outstanding Russian lawyers of the beginning of the twentieth century. He served in the Senate, then he was a legal adviser to many enterprises, as well as the Grand Dukes of Andrei, Cyril and Boris Vladimirovich, participated in a number of large civilian processes. In 1918, Gershun was forced to emigrate first to Germany (1918? 1933), then to France (1933? 1954) His authority among colleagues was extremely high: Gershun was elected chairman of the Council of Jurisders in Petrograd, as well as trade unions of Russian lawyers in Germany and France. His “Memories of the Russian Lawyer”, written in 1936? 1939, are stored in the Bakhmetev archive of the University of Columbia in New York and published for the first time. Memories of B.L. Gershuna is a unique source on the history of the Russian court, Russian advocacy, life and customs of Russian society at the end of the 19th - early 20th centuries. The gallery of “portraits” of Russian lawyers, judicial figures, and simply prominent figures, from Grand Duke Andrei Vladimirovich to the famous adventurer “Mitka” Rubinstein, “portraits”, very far from icon -painted ones, has no equal.
The book will not only be useful, but also interesting to both lawyers and historians of any level - from beginners to the venerable, and all those interested in domestic history and culture. Memories of B.L. Gershuna is not only a historical source, but also a magnificent example of Russian memoir prose and a very exciting reading
