These memories were written in Leningrad during the Great Patriotic War. Their author is a famous artist, illustrator of children"s books Vladimir Mikhailovich Konashevich (1888-1963) But they are not about war. They are about happy childhood, who was closed to the circle of family, relatives, acquaintances, about the hobbies of the boy who dreamed of building ships, was interested in astronomy, music and even seriously thought to become a violinist ... At 13, Volodya Konashevich began to systematically engage in drawing and after Studies at the gymnasium and the real school in 1908 are entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. The attentive view of the future artist draws before the reader the paintings of the "old" of Moscow at the beginning of the 20th century, and the appearance of "new fashion" in art, when the first paintings of Cezanne, Van Gogh and Picasso appeared among Moscow collectors who "collected this ugly painting more because more because This is the last scream of fashion. " Konashevich wrote about himself that in painting he was entailing realism, by which the artist meant not so much an obligatory objective for this current, as primarily sincerity, constant fidelity to his worldview: "I write as I see and feel".
