The memoirs of the prince, and then the Duke of Yevgeny Württemberg (1788-1857) cover the stormy era of the late XVIII - first quarter of the XIX century. Thanks to kinship with Empress Maria Fedorovna, he turned out to be involved in the court life of the Russian Empire with its intrigues and secrets.
Since 1806, Eugene was in the Russian army, participated in the battles of Pultuska, Preesish-Elau, Friedland and others. He met the war as commander of the 4th Infantry Division and earned the glory of one of the best generals of the Russian army. He was at the center of all the decisive battles of the war of 1812-1814. And the head of his regiments was the first to join the defeated Paris. In December 1825, the case brought Eugene to Petersburg, where he participated on the side of Nicholas I in the events on Senate Square. In 1828, he fought with the Turks during the siege of Varna.
With the exception of the translations of fragments in pre -revolutionary historical magazines, the memoirs of Eugene are almost the only memoirs of the military leaders of the Russian army of the Napoleonic Wars remained inaccessible to the Russian -speaking reader. The publication of this full transfer to scientific circulation introduces the most valuable historical source on the history of the Napoleonic era
