The son of the prince and subsequently the emperor of Germany Friedrich Prussian and Victoria Great British. In March 1890, Wilhelm II dismissed Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and took on direct control over the country"s policy. During his reign, the German Empire acquired new territories in China and the Pacific Ocean. The controversial foreign policy decisions of Wilhelm led to the First World War. After crushing defeats on the Western Front in 1918, he was forced to renounce the throne, thereby putting the end of the German Empire, the 300-year rule of the Hohenzollern house in Prussia and 500 years of government in Brandenburg. After the renunciation, he left for the Netherlands, where he spent the last years of his life.
