He played chess with death. He expelled the devil. He was the main enemy of agent 007. Max von Syudov (1929–2020) - one of the most famous Swedish actors of the 20th century. First of all, he is known thanks to many years of cooperation with Ingmar Bergman. But his creative biography is not exhausted only by this fact: the actor made a successful career in the USA and Europe, where he worked with Woody Allen, Dario Argento, Krzyshtof Zanussi, David Linch, Sidney Pollak, Sten Spilberg, Lars von Trier and William Fridkin. The book of Liliya Shitenburg is the first Russian -speaking (and second in the world) monograph on the actor. In it, the author tells what elements the image of von Syudov consists of - the main knight of the film screen. The publication complements the translation of the lecture read by the actor in Avignon in 2005
