Creating this biography, I tried to be impartial. I had the happiness of know the Empress Alexander Theodorovna well. I knew both the strengths of her character and her inherent weaknesses. I had the opportunity to observe her tireless labor for the benefit of her country and family. I saw her in the days of joy and in moments when the human soul is freed from all conventions associated with grandeur. And I wanted to create not just a formal biography of the autocrat, but to describe the life of a deeply human woman who became the will of the fate of the heroine of the tragedy ... This book is by no means a pedantic list of occurring at court, rather, it can be called biography. The told here is completely based on my memories. The book states the life of that Alexandra Feodorovna, which I knew well. How I wanted my work to help correct the false impression that arose thanks to the descriptions of people who, at best, knew it only superficially! And perhaps this book will serve as a correct assessment of what happened in the future.
S.K. Buxgevden

S.K. Buxgevden saw the royal family shortly before the martyrdom and carefully preserved the notes that the Empress wrote to her a few weeks before her death. Undoubtedly, they are the most valuable historical material, where the experiences of the royal family are truthfully and accurately captured. It must be said that, following the royal family to Siberia, S.K. Buxgevden shared all the difficulties and deprivations that fell to the share of the emperor and the empress, but was not allowed into the house of Ipatiev - the place of killing of the royal mentors. Together with P. Zhillar, the teacher of the heir to Tsesarevich, S.K. Buchvden, he managed to get through the Far East to Europe living in London, Baroness also wrote other books dedicated to the memories of the life of pre -revolutionary Russia, the Russian revolution about faithful tsarist servants, as well as About some circumstances of the investigation of the murder of the royal family: ("Before the Storm" ("in front of the storm") (1938) and "Left Behind" ("left") (1929)).

For a wide range of readers. For all those interested in the history of Russia in the XX century. The publication is of some interest for specialists in Russian history, the history of the Russian revolution, the history of Europe (the history of the royal and sovereign houses of Europe in the XIX - early XX centuries), for researchers of life and martyrdom of the royal family and their servants, for specialists in agiology, The history of the Russian Church, moral theology, pastoral theology, Orthodox pedagogy. For religious scholars, philosophers, philologists, culturalists, psychologists. The publication can be used as additional educational and scientific material for researchers, teachers and pupils of spiritual educational institutions, for teachers, students and graduate students of theological universities and faculties
