The book "Literary Memoirs" of Alexander Rafailovich Kugel (1864-1928), Soviet theater critic, is a biography of the author, which tells about the first period of his life and creativity. The book contains articles that at different times published in the magazine "Past". "Theater portraits" includes a collection of stories about the great actors of the XIX - early XX centuries. Kugel wrote about his contemporaries, about those actors who were distinguished by a creative personality. Among them P.S. Mochalov, V.F. Komissarzhevskaya, Sarah Bernard, K.A. Varlamov, A. Vyaltseva, M.V. Dahlsky and others.
