The seventh world champion Vasily Vasilievich Smyslov lived a long and eventful life. He played about 3,000 tournament parties in seven decades and managed to find both the era of Lasker and Kapablanki, and the times of Ananda and Carlsen. From 1948 to 1958, Smyslov took part in the four world championships and became a champion in 1957. For many years, Smyslov continued to play at the highest level and achieved incredible success in the early 1980s, breaking through the final match of applicants. Only the inexhaustible energy of 20-year-old Harry Kasparov did not allow Smyslov to play another match for the world championship in respectable 63 years!
In the first volume of a multi-volume study, the FIDE master Andrei Terekhov describes the years of the formation of Vasily Smyslov-from the first tournaments to the title of grandmaster of the USSR and second place in the Match Torrier for the 1948 world championship. Thanks to access to the family archives of Smyslov, the story of chess youth Vasily Vasilyevich is accompanied by dozens of beautiful photographs, some of which are published for the first time, as well as 49 deeply analyzed parties. A specially written article by the German Grandmaster Karsten Müller about the Yemlorov endses the first volume.
This book is the result of a very deep study of the life and work of the seventh world champion, and thanks to this it has become the long -awaited contribution to literature about the meaning "(from the preface of Peter Svidler)
