Nina Mikhailovna Subbotina (1877-1961) can rightfully be called by Stephen Hawking of Russian science. One of the first Russian-astronomers, she received a professional education, but could not work in a scientific institution due to a serious illness in childhood. Having created its own observatory, Subbotine was successfully engaged in observant astronomy and the study of sunny and earth ties. The data of her observations were regularly published in the most prestigious international astronomical magazines. But the circle of her interests was much wider. She became the first woman in Russia to write a book on the history of astronomy ("History of Cometle Galley"), awarded the prize of the Russian Astronomical Society. Among the contemporaries of astronomers, Subbotin was a legend. Deprived of hearing and speech, she maintained contact with her colleagues through the vast correspondence.
