They write about Leonid Gaidai, the creator of the most beloved movie comedies in our country, write infrequently. The undoubted general accessibility of his paintings in the eyes of many experts turns out to be apparent simplicity: they say, Gaidai is so elementary that there is nothing to tell about him. The film critic and writer-postmodernist Yevgeny Novitsky categorically disagree with such statements. In the biography he wrote, Leonid Gaidai appears not just an outstanding Soviet comedographer, but a genius of world cinema, not inferior to such quantities as Charlie Chaplin, Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman and Stanley Kubrick.
