Monograph O.E. Etingof "Jerusalem, Vladikavkaz and Moscow in the biography and work of M.A. Bulgakov" affects the events of the writer’s life and how they were reflected in his works. On the basis of numerous previously not published archival documents, forgotten publications in the press and memoirs, an extensive source material was collected regarding the Civil War in the North Caucasus and the Moscow period of the 1930s. Thanks to this study, it was possible to establish that in the spring of 1920, the writer as a former White Guard was sentenced to execution, but he was saved, and he was hired by Tersky Narobraz. Salvation occurred on a passionate week on Easter Eve. Significant and equally new material is presented in the book and in the Moscow period, in particular, it concerns the literary salon "Nikitinsky Subbotniks", writers and the People"s Commissariat of People"s Commissariats. In addition, the author concludes that many important events regarding M. A. Bulgakov and his work, in 1930 and subsequently again took place on Easter Eve.
The book attempted new prototypical interpretations of events and characters that are revealed in source -history chapters. According to O.E. Etingof, the Caucasian memoirs of 1920 were for M.A. Bulgakov the basis when creating the gospel chapters of the novel "Master and Margarita", the topography of Vladikaz, where he survived his Golgotha, for the image of Yershalaim. And the impressions of the writing environment of Moscow, in particular, from the "Nikitinsky subbotniks", were reflected in the Moscow chapters of the novel. Most of the interpretations of the prototypes proposed by the author, completely new and polemic in relation to the interpretations accepted in the literature
