Ivan Vladislavovich Zholtovsky (1867-1959) is one of the largest masters of domestic architecture of the 20th century and a person who has designed his own biography. In order to imagine himself as a patriarch of Soviet architecture and to level the details of his life controversial from an ideological point of view, Zholtovsky resorted even to outright mystification. Ilya Pechenkin and Olga Shurygin are attempting to deconstruct this image and rethink the biography of the famous architect. In their book, built on the basis of many archival documents, the authors derive a complex and voluminous portrait of Zholtovsky, which reflects his creative and human inconsistency.
