The monograph is devoted to the study of one of the most interesting phenomena of Russian historical science - the St. Petersburg School of Medievists, which arose at the beginning of the 20th century. and including a number of outstanding scientists - L.P. Karsavina, N.P. Ottokara, O.A. Oviash-Roznestvenskaya, M.A. Gukovsky and others. The history of life, scientific and pedagogical activity and relationships with students of the leader of the school - professor I.M. Grevsa.
The historical and anthropological approach applied by the author in this study allows you to answer a number of important questions regarding the specifics of the scientific school as a social group of professional scientists, as well as the historical and cultural conditions for the formation of the St. Petersburg Medievists and the social mechanisms of its functioning. The problems of the emergence and overcoming of conflicts within the scientific school, in particular, were not disadvantaged, the reasons for the rupture of relations between I.M. Grevsa and L.P. Karsavin. The unconditional advantage of the study is to attract numerous archival materials, including previously not published.
