"The book about Ivan Fedorovich Kruzenshtern cannot be uninteresting.
A lot was written about Adam Johann von Kruzenshtern, whose name today proudly flaunts on board the four -masted handsome barcard, shake the world ocean. However, the complete biography of the navigator has not yet been published. The reason is not least lone in the fact that there are very few sources. The preserved materials are scattered for many countries: they are in archives, libraries and private collections. In order to analyze them, at least the simultaneous knowledge of the German, English, Russian and Estonian languages is required.
In the presented book of a descendant of Kruzenshtern Evert Kruzenshtern, a considerable part of which is a story about the first Russian round -the -world expedition, rare documents and evidence of dozens of contemporaries about his life and work are also collected. The used numerous publications, unique iconography and illustrative material help to get acquainted with the personality of a naval officer, reveal his inner world, show care of children and spouse, illustrate relations with colleagues and subordinates. A frank narrative of overcoming difficulties, a hard path and career growth immerses in the atmosphere of life in St. Petersburg and the Baltic states of the late XVIII and first half of the 19th centuries.
The book was published in Germany in 1991, when the author of I.F. Kruzenshtern, V.M. Paseetsky, were available to the author,
