Academician I. Ya. Postovsky (1898-1980) is a world-famous scientist, founder of the Ural School of Chemistry-Organics, teacher and mentor of the whole galaxy of scientists and organizers of science, and chemical industries that have determined the face of the chemical industry in the Urals, starting from the thirties of the past centuries to this day. His name is revered by both specialists and the general public. In honor of it, the Academic Institute of Organic Synthesis and one of the streets in the south-west of Yekaterinburg are named.
But the author saw his goal not in the popularization of science, but in the reconstruction of an extraordinary life path of a scientist who had a chance to participate in all the main events of the rapid twentieth century. The childhood of I. Ya. Postovsky passed in Odessa, plunging into revolutionary madness, youth - in Munich, along the streets of which Ryoma brown -worshipers have already marched. He came from Germany to Soviet Russia at a time when the flow of emigrants who leave the “young country of the Bolsheviks” had not yet dried up. The milestones of his biography were the creation of engineering education in the Urals, the formation of academic science, the birth of pharmaceutical chemistry. His close relatives died in Nazi concentration camps, and he was awarded two Stalinist awards and worked out for "ideological errors"
