The book tells about people who investigate criminal cases in Russia in the first quarter of the 18th century. They worked in various investigative bodies - from the "major" office to the search office of the Embroidery Court. Based on archival documents, the vicissitudes of service quarries and biographies of the first investigators, which were mainly officers of the Guard of the Preobrazhensky and Semenovsky regiments, were almost first covered. Along with this, the unique details of the resonant criminal cases they invested, the bulk of which was aroused according to the episodes of the bribe and the embezzlement of government officials of different levels. Previously, unknown plots were considered, when the investigators themselves were undergoing criminal prosecution.
