Viktor Petrovich Astafyev is one of the most famous Soviet and Russian writers, laureate of two state prizes of the USSR and three state prizes in Russia. A special place in his work was occupied by the Great Patriotic War, in which he himself participated. He went to the front as a volunteer, served as a driver, artillery, scout, signalman, until in 1944 he was seriously injured.
In his book V.P. Astafyev writes about the war as it is not accepted in official works. This is a look from trenches, where there were death, blood and dirt, hellish work on the verge of human capabilities.
