Grigory Mikhailovich Semenov (1890-1946) came from the family of Transbaikal Cossacks. Member of the First World War, was awarded the Order of St. George of the 4th degree and St. George"s weapon. After the October Revolution, one of the most convinced and irreconcilable fighters with the Soviet government, with whom he fought both independently and as part of the armed forces under the leadership of Admiral A.V. Kolchak, from whom Lieutenant General received. One of the last decrees of the Admiral was the provision of Semenov "fullness of political power throughout the Russian eastern outskirts." In 1919 he was elected military ataman of the Trans -Baikal Cossack army.
In 1921 he left Russia and settled in Manchuria, where he became one of the founders and leaders of the Bureau of Affairs of Russian Emigrants, who was controlled by Japanese military and special services. One of the tasks of the bureau was the organization of intelligence and sabotage activities in the USSR.
In 1945 he was arrested by Soviet troops and after the trial in Moscow was hanged on August 30, 1946.
The figure of the chieftain Semenova is largely lost against the backdrop of such iconic figures of the White movement as Kolchak, Denikin, Wrangel, Yudenich and Krasnov, however, his memoirs, first published in Harbin in 1938, contain many interesting information about the little -known events of the civil war In the Far East and the post -war life of Russian emigration in China
