The book recreates the atmosphere of the cultural life of Moscow in the post-war 40-50s. The revival of tradition is telling about the example of the implementation of the projects of "large style" in architecture ("Stalin"s skyscrapers"), art (historical operas in the Bolshoi Theater), and the organization of popular celebrations (Pushkin’s anniversary of 1949)
The basis of the book is the essays of the author of the author about life in the center of Moscow, on Myasnitskaya Street. The author seeks to show a variety of manifestations of culture in the “bowels” of the life of life: in everyday life, at the household level, in the “communal services”, in the student environment. Thus, the signs of time come to life: a widespread enthusiasm for a book, the unprecedented demand for libraries, a thirst for knowledge and labor among young people, the take -off of passionarity, the heyday of an informal song culture, now lost friendship and good neighborliness in a hostel.
Imprinted important events: the first breakthroughs of the "Iron Curtain", the first meetings with Europe on the tour of the Bulgarian opera, viewing French films and performances. And the apotheosis is the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow in 1957.
Other topics included in the book are indicated by the heading "Essays on Russian Culture". This included two large articles about Sergey Mikhailovich Solovyov and Sergey Nikolaevich Durylin in the similarity of their common fate: both became priests, were repressed. The idea is the "Moscow Spirit of the Silver Age".
As an application at the end of the book - small notes on local history discoveries related to the Golitsyn estate Nikolskoye, and about M.A."s diplomat buried here. Khitrovo and his wife S.P. Khitrovo - Museum of Vladimir Solovyov
