On the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the blockade of Leningrad. On September 8, 1941, the Wehrmacht captured Shlisselburg, taking control of the source of the Neva and blocking Leningrad from the land. The Leningrad blockade began. By September 18, German troops captured Pushkin, Slutsk (Pavlovsk), Krasnoye Selo and in the Peterhof area went to the Gulf of Finland, stopping in the suburbs of Leningrad. Almost all the forces of the Baltic Fleet, most of the Leningrad Front and about 3 million civilians, were inside the "ring".
But the city lived! Within 827 days, experiencing an acute shortage of food, under daily fierce artillery shelling and bombing fighters of the Leningrad Front, the Baltic Fleet and residents of the city not only defended Leningrad, but also continued to work in factories, releasing weapons and ammunition necessary for the defense of the city.
