The German artist Nora Circle was born decades after the fall of the Nazi regime, but, despite this, inextricably linked her citizenship with the Holocaust and its inexpressible atrocities. Nora knew little about the participation of her family in World War II: although all her grandparents survived the war, they never talked about her. Only twenty years of life abroad did Nora realize the need to ask questions that she did not dare to voice the child. Having returned to Germany and studying the archives, family photo albums and letters, she recognized the stories of Willy, her maternal grandfather, who was forced to join the Nazi party, and Franz-Carla, her father’s brother, who voluntarily joined the ranks of the SS and who had still died in Italy in Italy .

In its unique graphic essay, Nora erases the boundaries between the comic book, scrapbooking and collage, trying to comprehend one of the most tragic events of the 20th century, the role of his family in them and a sense of shame, which continues to be passed on from generation to generation of Germans.
