This book tells about the fate of nine maids of honor. Maria Hamilton ended the life path on the block. Juliana Mengden spent the best years in exile. Elizabeth Vorontsova had a chance to become an empress. Ekaterina Nelidova sincerely loved Paul I, but ended up in disgrace, and the prudent Anna Lopukhina arranged for her to replace the case so that the sovereign showered her with merits and married her to a loved one. Sofia Tizenhausen (Shuazel-Gufier), Roxandra Sturdza (Edling), Anna Tyutcheva (Aksakova) and Alexander Rosset (Smirnova) had a literary gift. In the memoirs they left - a description of the most important events of Russian history, portraits of emperors Alexander I, Nicholas I and Alexander II, their wives and family members, details of the court life. All these women unite all of these women - they, outstanding, were close to the throne, and some of them, perhaps, even influenced the decisions of the supreme power.
