For what reason did people go on travel? The first Russian travelers traveled for religious reasons, visiting holy places or moving in trade. Gradually, geopolitical goals began to be added to these interests: in the XVI-XVII centuries, Russian explorers rushed into the Urals, who opened new lands, applied them to the map and founded Russian settlements and prisoners there. A century later, the government began to equip expeditions, which already included scientists, naturalists and geographers. The systematic scientific study and description of the animal and plant world, natural wealth, unfamiliar peoples, cultures and civilizations followed.
