This unique book with a truly bizarre and dramatic fate went to readers for many years. The entire circulation of Gogol’s biography in the ZhZL series, signed in 1934, was destroyed, because the author of the biography, the famous Soviet critic and publicist Alexander Voronsky underwent repression. Miraculously, several copies of this publication survived.
The book of A. Voronsky is designed for a wide range of readers. It recreates the living appearance of Gogol as a man and writer, his artistic works are interested in the biographer primarily to the extent that they reflect the personality of the Creator
